The deleted draft

[edit]

You deleted my draft page for James Gleick's Genius: The Life and Science of Richard Feynman, saying it was "unambiguous advertising or promotion." Not so. I said that the book was nominated for a Pulitzer for Biography and a National Book Award for Nonfiction. But that's true, and awards can be found on pages for similar books; see Subtle is the Lord: The Science and the Life of Albert Einstein.

I was perplexed by "unambiguous advertising or promotion" since the review in the New York Review of Books I linked to took Gleick to task for eschewing equations. It's hardly a rave, and not without fair criticism. I included that criticism in the excerpt. Linking to reviews (especially mixed ones) i is not "advertising", ambiguous or otherwise.

Another review I linked to, by the Nobel Laureate Philip W. Anderson, was published in Science, one of the world's most respected scientific journals. I read: "External links to commercial organizations are acceptable if they identify notable organizations which are the topic of the article." Science, being one of the most respected scientific journals in the world, is certainly relevant to the article (and it's not a "commercial organization.")

Linking to book reviews on a book page is commonplace, especially on Good and Featured articles. I went out of my way to find a review that included good faith criticism of Gleick for eschewing equations. What is a "Reception" section for if not reception?

This is a biography of a major scientist by a major science writer (and no, I do not know Gleick and have no interest in "promoting or advertising" his work.) I'd like your help with it. For starters, the title of the article must be italicized, as it is a title of a book. I'd like the draft back, so I (we?) can improve upon it. Look forward to hearing from you.

Deletion

[edit]

So I spent the last two weeks doing research for a page. Paid a money to newspapers to download paywalled articles. Translated a whole bunch of stuff from German. Contacted the person it is about. But within 12 hours of actually starting to write it, it was deleted while I am literally working on it. I had stated that it is currently work in progress and will be finished over the weekend. Hannah Bahng

[edit]

Are you fine with me recreating Draft:Hannah Bahng? I found several sources, especially since the Jan. 2024 deletion, that seem to show SIGCOV. I am also not affiliated with or have a COI with Bahng in any way. wizzito | say hello! 23:25, 24 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Wizzito it's not protected, and you're an experienced editor, so go ahead. Bear in mind that numbers of social media followers is not in itself a criterion for notability Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:13, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. FYI social media following isn't something I use to determine what articles I decide to create - it's normally the presence of multiple articles about a person in RS. wizzito | say hello! 20:24, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
